What is Vasopneumatic Compression Therapy?

Vasopneumatic Compression Therapy is a type of physical therapy treatment that uses compressed air to improve circulation in the affected limb and reduce swelling. It is commonly used to manage lymphedema, a condition characterized by the accumulation of excess fluid in the tissue, which can cause swelling, pain, and discomfort in the affected area.

The therapy works by using a device that inflates and deflates cuffs that are placed around the affected limb. The cuffs work by compressing the limb, which helps to pump fluid out of the affected area and back into the circulatory system. The compression and decompression cycles are performed in a rhythmic manner, with the compression being applied to the limb for a specific period of time and then released, allowing the limb to relax. This process is repeated several times, with the compression being gradually increased over time to help improve circulation.

Benefits of Vasopneumatic Compression Therapy in Clarks Summit

Vasopneumatic compression therapy has several benefits for patients suffering from lymphedema. First, it can help to reduce swelling and fluid buildup in the affected limb, which can alleviate discomfort and pain. Second, it can improve circulation and prevent the formation of blood clots, which can be a risk for patients with lymphedema. Third, it can help to prevent or delay the progression of the condition, which can be important for patients who are at risk of developing chronic lymphedema.

What is NormaTec Recovery System?

NormaTec is the global leader in rapid recovery. Our systems provide a competitive advantage to elite athletes, coaches, trainers, and other professionals. NormaTec’s goal is to make recovery an integral part of every athlete’s training. The NormaTec PULSE Recovery Systems, dynamic compression devices, are designed to aid in rehabilitation and recovery. The NormaTec PULSE Technology helps athletes recover quicker between training and performance.

NormaTec systems come with a control unit as well as attachments that can be attached to the hips, legs, and arms. The system uses compressed air to massage your limbs and mobilize fluid. The system will require you to first inflate the device. During this time, the attached attachments are customized to your body. Depending on the attachment, the session will begin with compression of your feet, hands or upper quad. Each segment of the attachment will be compressed in a pulse-like fashion, then released. This is similar to a massage. As the compression pattern moves up your limb, it will do the same for each section of the attachment.

How It Works

The NormaTec Pulse massage pattern starts at the foot, hand or lower hip. It then moves up zone-by-zone, massaging the limbs and mobilizing fluid from the extremities.

The NormaTec Pulse massage pattern was created by a physician-bioengineer (MD, PhD.) to increase blood flow and speed recovery. It employs three key techniques to maximize recovery.

Pulsing: Sequential Pulse Technology uses dynamic compress (pulsing) instead of static compression (squeezing), to transport fluid from the limbs. Our patent-pending pulsing action mimics the muscles pump in the legs and arms. This greatly enhances fluid movement and metabolites after intense training.

Gradients: Fluid backflow is prevented by one-way valves in veins and lymphatic vessels. NormaTec Pulse Technology also uses hold pressures to prevent fluids being forced in the wrong directions. This enhancement allows the PULSE or PULSE PRO to deliver maximum pressure in any zone, rather than tapering pressure off.

Extended static pressure: Sequential Pulse Technology allows for the distal release of hold pressures to prevent backflow. Each limb’s rest time is maximized by releasing the hold pressure in the appropriate zone as quickly as possible.
